Round the World for Rare is a virtual challenge in which teams will compete to travel around the globe along a route based on that ridden by Around The World Cycling Record Holder Mark Beaumont. Starting and finishing at Making the Most of Now HQ in Hope, New Zealand, participants will tackle the challenge in teams. Taking part in a range of sports or physical activities, they will clock up real or equivalent miles that will be logged on our Virtual Misson website. This will show progress as individuals and teams, providing motivation throughout the challenge. From a gentle walk to a strength session in the gym and everything in between, our mileage converter will enable miles to be clocked up in a wide range of activities including many adaptive sports.

To maximise the impact of this challenge we are looking to partner with organisations who share our goals and values. If you think you can help us make a difference to the rare disease community, then we would love to hear from you. We know from personal experience that whatever your fitness goals, it takes a team to achieve your best results. In the build up to and during the challenge we will be working with a number of partners to provide advice and guidance that will help you set and achieve your goals. From online Q and A sessions to training programmes we will work to support every participant to truly Make the Most of Now.

We have also partnered with a number of remarkable people living with rare disease who will act as Ambassadors for each team. This includes GB paracyclist Ben Watson and Italian Para Triathlete Ilaria Brugnoli to name but two people who will share their knowledge and experience of exercise with a rare disease.

As well as participating in this virtual challenge we will be working with our partners and encouraging participants to organise in person fitness activities for the rare disease community during the month. Full details will be released in January 2027.

A challenge like this offers incredible opportunities to raise awareness and funds for charities that support the rare disease community. If you are interested in working with us and using the challenge to raise awareness of your charity then please contact us at clive@makingthemostofnow.co.nz.
