Ride for MMN 2025 – The Tour de MMN
Riding with Multifocal Motor Neuropathy in the tyre tracks of the first British Tour De France team
On 7th July 1955 the ten men in the first British team to ride the Tour De France stood in Le Havre at the start line of the first stage of the 42nd edition of the race. 3 weeks later only two crossed the finish line in the Parc des Princes velodrome, Paris. Brian Robinson was 29th, Tony Hoar 69th and last – the so called Lanterne Rouge.
Seventy years after these pioneers became the first Britons to finish the race, MMN patient Clive Phillips and a team of fellow veterans took on the challenge of retracing their steps. What lay ahead was a ride of nearly 3200km along a route inspired by that of the 1955 Tour.
From the infamous cobbles of the “Hell of the North”, the Alps, Mont Ventoux and the Pyrenees the Tour de MMN had it all. The ride would truly test whether it was possible for someone with MMN to ride the route of the Tour de France.
